Hi, I’m Amanda Gerard — founder of Sew Bestie and your fearless Sewcation host. I’ve got over 20 years of experience behind a sewing machine and I’m proudly self-taught, fluent in “what not to do” and “oops, I did it again.” That means I teach the basics in a way that’s clear, low-pressure, and beginner-proof — so even if needles and thread feel like a foreign language, you’ll be sewing with confidence in no time.

I’m also honored to be a Juki Brand Ambassador, partnering with a brand I genuinely trust and love. Juki machines are known for being reliable, powerful, and beginner-friendly — and I’m excited to help more people discover what they can create with the right tools and a little encouragement.
The Sewcation Story
Sew Bestie was founded in 2018 in the heart of Oceanside, CA, serving San Diego and North County communities with quality, easy-to-follow sewing instruction designed with beginners in mind — kids and adults alike. Out of that love for teaching (and a whole lot of creative “aha!” moments), Sewcations by Sew Bestie was born: the events side of our business where sewing becomes an experience you get to share.

Think of a Sewcation as part class, part hangout, and fully a good time. Whether you’re joining us for a themed sew-along, a workshop with your besties, or a special group event, our goal is the same: make sewing feel approachable, fun, and totally doable — even if you’ve never touched a machine before.
